The original sin
by onacruse inthis is a question i've had for a long time.. according to the biblical account, adam and eve's sin was to eat fruit from the forbidden tree.. now, ordinarily, when we get caught doing something "wrong," we try to hide the "offending" member (the child tries to hide his hand that has the 'stolen' cookie; we hurriedly try to pull our pants back on when mom walks in unexpectedly while we're masturbating, etc.)..
so, if the "sin" of adam and eve was eating a forbidden fruit, then why wasn't their first impulse to hide their hands?
or to wipe off their mouths?

The simple truth is confusing to many. The Genesis 3 account is not a metaphor. It is like surveillance tape, police interrogation and witness testimony, and judicial rulings handed down: all in one chapter. Distortions like it being an apple [it was, in fact, a piece of forbidden fruit, from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Bad, if we want the full, correct legal description in common, modern English] are like the other distortions commonly told: the Easter bunny, the Santa Claus with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Facts are usually the least of the story-tellers concerns. The actual Bible doesn't support those distortions. The Genesis 3 account parallels the first half of the illustration of the prodigal son. The final outcomes demonstrate the contrast between recognizing the rules we should play by and mocking them by our actions. Playing on God's side does lead to living forever. Playing against God's side means bad consequences, whether temporary (as in the case of the prodigal son) or permanent/fatal (as appears to be the case with Adam and Eve). The thought of disobedience led quickly to the act of disobedience. The longing or desire for what was forbidden led to the eating of the forbidden fruit. James 1:12-15 could be used to describe the events in Genesis chapters 2 & 3. Using James 1:15 leads me to label the eating of the forbidden fruit [which was what carried the consequences of death] as the sin.
Wisdom acts so as to have good consequences. Careful thought and guidance is required for that. We aren't equipped to handle things on our own. We must line our thoughts and actions with those the Creator supports to have real success.

Sex, theories, and philosophies aren't in the Genesis 3 account.
Why do humans grow old and die, since it was not God's purpose. Genetic malfunction due Adam and Eve both eating the forbidden fruit. Simple. Even today, AIDS can be transmitted to the unborn fetus for nothing it did wrong.
The Original Sin was disobedience.
"Satan" means opposer. The Original Serpent, a.k.a. Satan, certainly did oppose his Creator and has attempted to lead all humankind ever since. Fortunately, some humans have been repentant, and faithful to the Creator's instructions.
Men's leadership still stinks, and women are still blamed. Man's culpability is real, whether he admits to it or tries to shift the blame. God's not so dumb. His surveillance system works better than ours do.

Our creator is the God of truth. If we can't believe the Bible, what else is there that we can go on? My belief in God's Word allows me to keep my bearings and make a more sensible life for myself. The more I believe it's true, the better my life gets. To me, it's about sanity.

I wasn't part of the discussion that went into what was written. I am not a member of the Writing Committee. So I am not qualified to be an apologist for it. You'll have to ask a member what was meant, or receive holy spirit, so that the meaning is revealed to you.

As imperfect humans, we all need empathetic, but firm, responsible counselling. The best counsel comes from our Creator, who designed us after all, in His image. Some may abuse Bible counsel, but the Bible counsel itself is still valid. — Q. Bert

As plausible as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in conjunction with Santa Claus; with just as much potential commercial mileage.

The article I just quoted from contains the following four steps: (1) Throw all your anxieties upon Jehovah in prayer, confident that "he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7; Psalm 55:22); (2) Fill your mind with upbuilding spiritual thoughts. (Philippians 4:8), Read the Bible daily; (3) Shun pornography and gay propaganda, which will only fuel wrong thoughts. (Psalm 119:37; Colossians 3:5, 6); (4) Seek out a confidant, and talk to him or her about your thoughts. (Proverbs 23:26; 31:26; 2 Timothy 1:1, 2; 3:10).
The article includes this sentence in its final paragraph: All of us battle wrong inclinations at times. (Romans 3:23; 7:21-23).
I personally have carried this magazine around in my pocket since the day I got it. I was fighting another addictive thought pattern. Many, no doubt, are helped, even as I am, by articles such as this. Hopefully, it will appear online at http://www.watchtower.org/e/search/search_e.htm. There are other articles on various aspects of homosexuality, just not this one yet.

An interesting article is found in the February 2007 Awake!, entitled Young People Ask... Homosexuality — How can I avoid it? (pages 28-30).
Page 29, paragraph 2 makes these observations: Regardless of the cause, the important thing to realize is that the Bible condemns homosexual acts. Thus, the person who is struggling with same-sex desires is presented with a reachable goal — he or she can choose not to act on those desires. To illustrate: A person might be "disposed to rage." (Proverbs 29:22) In the past he may have freely given in to fits of anger. After studying the Bible, though, he becomes aware of the need to develop self-control. Does this mean that he will never again feel anger welling up inside him? No. However, because he knows what the Bible says about uncontrolled anger, he refuses to succumb to his feelings. It is similar with a person who has felt attracted to others of the same sex but who has now come to learn what the Bible says about homosexual practices. On occasion, an improper desire may still present itself. Nevertheless, by heeding the counsel of the Bible, the person can refrain from acting on that desire.
